A (not so) hypothetical scenario.

Imagine you live in a world where no one can change their weight permanently. Weight is precisely like height, nose shape, eye color.

Is that a freeing or terrifying thought? What would you change? Would you feel more empathy for people in larger bodies? Would you treat bodies simply as “types”, like eye color or nose shape? Would you still feel shame or embarrassment about your body when you go to the gym? Would you maybe exercise more because you know it’s purely for all the great mental and physical health benefits? Would you choose a salad once in a while because it gets your digestive system ‘moving’? What do you risk by accepting your body as it is?

Guess what? This hypothetical world does exist. Did you know that weight is even more inheritable from our parents than height? The only known way to change body weight permanently is to increase it incrementally through restrictive eating (because bodies want to keep you safe from starvation and will hold on to extra weight after a period of dieting - no matter what size you started out at).

Consider joining me (and so many others) as we walk away from other people’s scientifically incorrect ideas about our obligation and ABILITY to change our body size.
